Add a comment. -1. There is not a significant difference between statistics and biostatistics. In my definition, biostatistics is the application of statistics to biology. So a Biostatistician has a relatively strong command in biology, well at least enough to understand how to apply his statistics to biology.

In addition, elementary statistics is not a fundamental mathematics course compared to algebra.
