After another day of reading Reddit there’s clear 3 options: Karlby 219$ (ouch) Saljan 74$ (same thickness as Karlby, much cheaper, but no brown color option to go with my black Alex drawers is a pass) Ekbacken 94$ (Still good price and nice brown option- my first pick for now)One is laminate, so a plastic top layer with a printed paper layer. It is smooth and hard but not an organic material. The other is referred to as engineered wood, a top layer of real wood with the same touch and feel as solid wood. KALBY can be sanded when damaged, SALJAN will take a lot of abuse but when damaged cannot be be repaired.***Cut the laminates upside down if you are using a circular saw. You'll get less tearout.
